A four-minute double from Reece Thompson and Vadaine Oliver added to James Berrett's first-half strike to give York City a comfortable win against bottom side Newport County in League Two this afternoon.
The Welsh side were given an early warning when Berrett shot from outside the box, but his effort was well saved by Newport goalkeeper Joe Day.
Berrett then gave York the lead after half an hour, when the midfielder intercepted the ball in the opposition's half and drove at the defence before slotting his shot past the on-rushing Day.
The Minstermen doubled their lead in the second half, a deep free kick was nodded home by Thompson before Oliver added a third not soon after from close range.
Newport's Danny Holmes was sent off with just over 10 minutes remaining, the defender earning a second booking for a bad foul.
Lenell John-Lewis almost gave his side a late consolation but his shot was stopped by York goalkeeper Scott Flinders.
The loss keeps Terry Butcher's side rooted to the foot of the table while York rise to 13th.
