Sam Tomkins: 'Wigan Warriors return not only option'

England full-back Sam Tomkins insists that Wigan Warriors are not his only option when he returns to the Super League at the end of the season.

England full-back Sam Tomkins has revealed that a return to Wigan Warriors is not the only option for him when he leaves the New Zealand Warriors at the end of the season.

Tomkins will be allowed to return to the Super League due to homesickness, cutting short his stay in New Zealand having made the switch in 2013 for a world-record fee.

Wigan have the first option on Tomkins as part of that deal and, while he admitted that it would be "nice" to return and play alongside his brother Joel, the 26-year-old insisted that he will choose the "best option".

"I've not worked that out just yet. The first thing was to sort it out over here that I could go back. Hopefully that'll be sorted in the not-too-distant future," he told reporters.

"That's where my brother's playing and that's where I'm from, but I'm open to other places. I'm just trying to work out what will be the best option for me.

"Wigan would be nice but I know it's not the only team I can go to."

Tomkins scored 144 tries in 150 appearances for Wigan before his departure.
