Australia's Israel Folau passed fit for World Cup clash against Wales

Israel Folau is passed fit for Saturday's crucial Rugby World Cup match against Wales at Twickenham.

Australia full-back Israel Folau has been declared fit for Saturday's crucial Rugby World Cup clash against Wales at Twickenham.

The 29-year-old has been struggling with an ankle injury, but head coach Michael Cheika deems the player fit enough to play at the weekend.

Rob Thorne was also due to have a late fitness test, but it is not good news for the wing as he has been left out alongside suspended flanker Michael Hooper.

Drew Mitchell has been called on to replace Horne, while Sean McMahon, who has just five caps for the Wallabies, will take Hooper's position for Australia, who knocked out host nation England last weekend.

The result of Saturday's showdown will decide who finishes first and second in Pool A, with the winners taking on Scotland or Japan in the quarter-finals, while the losers will face South Africa.

Australia squad:

Israel Folau, Adam Ashley-Cooper, Tevita Kuridrani, Matt Giteau, Drew Mitchell, Bernard Foley, Will Genia, Scott Sio, Stephen Moore, Sekope Kepu, Kane Douglas, Dean Mumm, Scott Fardy, Sean McMahon, David Pocock

Replacements: Tatafu Polota-Nau, James Slipper, Greg Holmes, Rob Simmons, Ben McCalman, Nick Phipps, Matt Toomua, Kurtley Beale
