Munster have confirmed that Anthony Foley will replace Rob Penney as the club's head coach next season.

Penney will leave Thomond Park in the summer to take up a coaching role in Japan.

Foley, who is the current forwards coach, has signed a two-year contract with the club where he spent 13 years as a player.

"I am very fortunate to have played and achieved success with this club, my home club, at the top level," the 40-year-old is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News.

"Now I look forward to leading the next generation of Munster players to future success in the red jersey."

Foley won 62 caps for Ireland during a decade-long international career.
