Steve Hansen extends New Zealand contract

New Zealand confirm that head coach Steve Hansen has extended his contract with the All Blacks until the end of the 2019 World Cup in Japan.

New Zealand head coach Steve Hansen has extended his contract with the All Blacks until the end of the 2019 World Cup in Japan.

The 57-year-old guided his country to their third World Cup triumph last year, and second in a row for the Kiwis, after beating Australia in the final.

"Once I had confirmed some considerations, it really was a no-brainer to continue," Hansen told reporters on Monday.

"Having the opportunity to be part of a team that will be trying to win three consecutive Rugby World Cups is both an invigorating and exciting challenge and one I'm very much looking forward to being part of."

Hansen, whose previous deal was due to run out in 2017, has been All Blacks boss since 2012, and will lead his side in three Tests against the British and Irish Lions next summer.
