London Welsh hope to overturn RFU sanction

London Welsh confirm that they will appeal the RFU's decision to deem the Championship winners ineligible to be promoted to the top flight.

London Welsh chairman Bleddyn Phillips has confirmed that the club will appeal against the Rugby Football Union's ruling that they are not eligible to be promoted to the Premiership.

The Championship winners were not permitted to move into the top flight of rugby after the governing body decided that the Exiles did not meet the minimum standards required to compete in the Premiership.

"We shall be lodging an appeal in the very near future," said Phillips said. "In parallel, we are pursuing all other available opportunities to make sure we can take our rightful and deserved place in the Aviva Premiership."

The club had originally planned to groundshare at the Kassam Stadium in Oxford.
