Roger Federer speaks of his happiness at the comfortable win over Rafael Nadal but also says he was surprised at the ease of the victory.

Roger Federer expressed surprise at his comfortable win over Rafael Nadal in ATP World Tour Finals tonight.

After an even start to the match, the 30-year-old came through 6-3 6-0 in exactly an hour against his arch rival of the past five years or so.

"It's a very surprising result, I guess we can't always live up to our expectations and I've definitely seen Rafa play better, but I've also definitely played worse," Federer told Sky Sports News after the match.

"I'm happy it went so well and I wish Rafa all the best for the rest of the group. For me [the tournament] continues which is fantastic. I'm very excited about the way I played tonight.

"Every day is different, it's a challenge to come out and play your best every day but today was one of those days, so I'm very pleased."

The win means that Federer has guaranteed his place in the final four of the end-of-season event while Nadal will need to beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga on Thursday to join the Swiss in the semis.
