Andy Murray: 'Competing time is good preparation for US Open'

Andy Murray insists that his recent busy schedule is acting as the ideal preparation for the US Open, which begins at the end of the month.

Andy Murray has admitted that he is 'physically tired' after continuing his winning streak on the US hard-court swing.

After claiming the Rogers Cup in Montreal last week, Murray has come through three closely-fought matches at the Cincinnati Open to reach the last four, but the British number one insists that it is good preparation ahead of the US Open.

The 28-year-old is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "I was sluggish at the start, but as the match went on I was striking the ball better and was dictating a lot of points without having to do as much running.

"Physically I'm tired and my body hurts, but with the US Open coming up these matches are good for me physically and mentally to get through."

After his triumph over Richard Gasquet, Murray will face Roger Federer for a place in the final.
