Ilie Nastase: 'Roger Federer can play until he's 60'

Ilie Nastase believes that Roger Federer can play until he is 60 years old if he chooses to.

Romanian former world number one Ilie Nastase has urged people to stop calling for Roger Federer to retire from tennis.

The Swiss pro, who has 17 Grand Slam titles to his name, has fallen to sixth in the world rankings this season at the age of 32.

"I wish people wouldn't say that Roger Federer has to retire," BBC Sport quotes Nastase as saying. "Federer doesn't have to prove anything, he can play to 60 if he wants to."

Federer managed to win only one title this year.
