David Ferrer completes a comfortable straight-sets win over Janko Tipsarevic to take third in the season-opening World Tennis Championship.

David Ferrer has claimed third place at the World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi with a comfortable victory over Janko Tipsarevic.

The Serb fought hard in a tight first set, which went all the way to a deciding tie-break.

Ferrer took advantage of a pair of mistakes on serve to claim the tie-break 7-4 and in turn earn the opening set.

Tipsarevic faded badly in the second set, with Ferrer proving relentless from the baseline to build an unassailable advantage.

The Spaniard served out the second set 6-2 to claim a dominant win as both players worked away the cobwebs in the season-opening event.
