Andy Murray recorded his first ever victory over Novak Djokovic on clay this afternoon and in doing so clinched the Rome Masters title.
World number one Djokovic had won the four previous meetings between the two players on all surfaces, including last week's final in Madrid.
However, on this occasion, Murray took control of proceedings early on in the Italian capital, before going on to wrap up a 6-3 6-3 win.
The Scot claimed the first set in 47 minutes thanks to one break of the Djokovic serve.
Then, a further two breaks followed in the second set as Murray prepared for the French Open, which gets underway on May 22, in the best possible fashion.
His performances in Rome, where he has clinched a 12th Masters crown, has seen the 29-year-old regain the world number two spot from Roger Federer.
