Senior players on the men's tour are reportedly threatening to lead a boycott of this year's US Open in a row over prize money and tournament scheduling.

This year's US Open is under threat of a walkout from the majority of senior men's players over issues with prize money and match times, according to reports.

An overwhelming number of players on the men's tour want reportedly want the American showpiece to match the increase in prize money provided by the Australian Open this year.

The Melbourne tournament raised the prize pool for the January event by 30%, with the winner of the season's opening Grand Slam now earning a record-breaking £1.56m.

Top players on the men's tour are also unhappy that the final at Flushing Meadows is due to played on a Monday night to suit TV times and have demanded a review of the schedule, according to The Times.

A full-scale boycott of a Grand Slam event has not occurred since 1973, when 83 players pulled out of Wimbledon when Niki Pilic was banned for refusing to play a Davis Cup tie for Yugoslavia.
