Tomas Berdych sees off Lleyton Hewitt in straight sets to book his place in the second round of the US Open in New York.

Tomas Berdych has recorded a straight-sets victory over Lleyton Hewitt to book his place in the second round of the US Open.

The number six seed eased past the veteran Australian 6-3 6-4 6-3 at Flushing Meadows in New York to claim his 100th Grand Slam match victory.

Berdych wrapped the match up in two hours and 17 minutes with a convincing display.

Elsewhere, Kevin Anderson edged out Pablo Ceuvas in a five-set thriller earlier in the afternoon.
