Paul Scholes: 'Jack Wilshere is England's best player'

Paul Scholes believes that Jack Wilshere was England's best player during their recent wins in Euro 2016 qualifying.

Paul Scholes has claimed that Jack Wilshere has been England's best player during the team's recent Euro 2016 qualifiers.

The Arsenal midfielder played a key role for the Three Lions last week as they kept up their 100% start in Group E with wins over San Marino and Estonia.

Having previously criticised the 22-year-old for not realising his potential, Scholes believes that Wilshere is now a vital presence in England's setup.

"I thought Jack Wilshere had two very good games for England during the last week. I would go one step further than that and say that, at the moment, Wilshere is England's best player," he told The Independent.

"The penny has dropped and he has added another dimension to his game. He has always been capable of that intricate passing game. Now he can play the ball long, too. The quality of some of those passes into Wayne Rooney in Estonia was very high."

Wilshere and his Arsenal teammates continue their Premier League campaign on Saturday when they entertain Hull City.
