Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has welcomed the arrival of defender Baba Rahman and has admitted that he has high hopes for the young left-back.
The 21-year-old's move to Stamford Bridge for an undisclosed fee was announced less than an hour after the Premier League champions lost 3-0 at Manchester City today.
With Filipe Luis returning to Atletico Madrid earlier this summer, Mourinho hopes that Rahman can be the man to challenge regular left-back Cesar Azpilicueta this term.
"It's important because he is a left-back and he can compete with Azpilicueta," the Portuguese told reporters.
"At the same time, by being a left-back, Azpilicueta can compete with [Branislav] Ivanovic for the right-back position.
"This player replaces Filipe Luis in the balance of the squad. He is a player that we need for that balance."
Rahman, who left Augsburg in Germany to join the Blues, is also a Ghana international.
