Preview: Burnley vs. Crystal Palace - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Monday's Premier League clash between Burnley and Crystal Palace, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Burnley welcome Crystal Palace to Turf Moor on Monday evening still looking for their first Premier League win of the season.

Meanwhile, the Eagles make the trip to the North West having prevailed in two of their last three outings, taking the club into eighth position in the standings.

Amid speculation regarding a takeover, Sean Dyche finds himself in a situation where he will be eager to use any transfer funds which may come with a change in ownership.

However, the long-serving Clarets boss must first ensure that he remains in his current position at Turf Moor after an uninspiring opening to the season.

Although injuries and a lack of investment have played their part, Dyche would have expected more than two points and three goals from the club's opening seven fixtures.

Those two points, achieved at West Bromwich Albion and Brighton & Hove Albion, did little to lift the mood among the team's fanbase, who will naturally be fearing for their future in the top flight.

Nevertheless, Burnley still sit just two points adrift of safety, meaning that victory over Palace has the potential to kick-start their season.

From Palace's perspective, Roy Hodgson and his squad will have ambitions to become a constant fixture in the top half of the table after collecting 13 points from eight matches.

Hodgson has witnessed his team let slip promising positions in previous years, disappointment which should only add extra motivation at a club which is at risk of stagnating.

The 4-1 triumph at home to Leeds United could act as the catalyst for change, a win made all the more impressive with Wilfried Zaha not getting on the scoresheet.

The forward has enjoyed a strong start to the season but there are signs that several of his teammates - new and old - are ready to play their part over the coming months.

Team News

Eberechi Eze is a doubt for Palace after being forced to withdraw from international duty with England Under-21s.

Luka Milivojevic serves the second game of a three-match ban, but James Tomkins, Gary Cahill and Tyrick Mitchell are all back in contention after injury.

Burnley may have to make do without Robbie Brady, who sustained an injury during his time with Republic of Ireland.

Johan Berg Gudmundsson could receive a recall on the right flank, although Dyche may look for a way to bring Dale Stephens back into the team.

Burnley possible starting lineup:
Pope; Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Pieters; Gudmundsson, Westwood, Stephens, McNeil; Barnes, Wood

Crystal Palace possible starting lineup:
Guaita; Clyne, Kouyate, Dann, Van Aanholt; Townsend, Riedewald, McArthur, Schlupp; Ayew, Zaha

We say: Burnley 1-1 Crystal Palace

Sitting in the top 10 in the table, Hodgson will see this game as an opportunity to strengthen their position. However, Burnley will match the visitors for desire on Monday evening, which could lead to a low-scoring draw being played out between two well-matched sides.
