Late Chris Rolfe penalty gives DC United victory over Philadelphia Union

DC United defeat Philadelphia Union 2-1 in the MLS thanks to Chris Rolfe's late penalty.

DC United have defeated Philadelphia Union 2-1 in the MLS, with Chris Rolfe's late penalty separating the teams.

Philadelphia took the lead in the opening five minutes when French midfielder Sebastian Le Toux netted his first goal of the season.

Cristian Maidana saw his shot saved by DC goalkeeper Bill Hamid on the half-hour mark, before Le Toux's attempt to double Union's lead was also denied before half time.

Chris Pontius made Philadelphia pay in first-half stoppage time, scoring his second goal of the season to draw his team level.

Fernando Aristeguieta had a number of chances to give Philadelphia the lead in the second half, but Hamid was on form to keep his team in the match.

With five minutes remaining, Rolfe snatched the victory for DC from the penalty spot, after Zach Pfeiffer had been adjudged to handle the ball.
