FIFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against the Football Association due to allegations of discriminatory chants by England fans during Wednesday's semi-final with Croatia.
England fell to an extra-time defeat in what was their first World Cup semi-final since 1990, with Mario Mandzukic scoring the decisive goal to send Croatia through to their first ever final.
Accusations of chants of a "possible discriminatory" nature have since emerged, although the precise details of the allegations are still unknown.
"We can confirm that a report has been filed through the anti-discrimination monitoring system in relation to chants of a possible discriminatory nature by English fans," read a statement from FIFA.
"Subsequently, disciplinary proceedings have been opened against The Football Association."
England will next face Belgium in the third-place playoff on Saturday.
