Wigan Athletic stun Everton to reach FA Cup semi-finals

Wigan Athletic continue their fine FA Cup run with a 3-0 win over Everton in this afternoon's quarter-final at Goodison Park.

Wigan Athletic scored three unanswered goals in the space of four first-half minutes to knock Everton out of the FA Cup at Goodison Park this afternoon.

The home side went close early on as Sylvain Distin headed wide, but from then on Wigan started to stamp their authority on the match.

Shaun Maloney curled a strike off the post before Arouna Kone headed over from close range.

The visitors took the lead on 28 minutes when Maynor Figueroa evaded Leon Osman at the far post to beat Jan Mucha with a header into the bottom corner.

Less than a minute later Everton were two down as Callum McMananman burst past Phil Neville before finishing coolly from a tight angle.

Jordi Gomez left David Moyes absolutely stunned just two minutes later with a measured finish from 20 yards that left Mucka with no chance.

Everton were unable to find a response before the break and needed three goals in the second half to keep their FA Cup dream alive.

Wigan defended deep and never look under severe pressure after the interval, with Everton restricted to long-range efforts from Marouane Fellaini, Ross Barkley and Leighton Baines.

Ryo Miyachi and Gomez both suffered injuries in the closing stages but the Latics held firm to book a trip to Wembley in the final four for the first time.
