Allardyce: 'Garbutt should leave Everton'

Manager Sam Allardyce says that defender Luke Garbutt should look for a move away from the Toffees after remaining down the pecking order at Goodison Park.

Everton boss Sam Allardyce has claimed that the future of defender Luke Garbutt should be spent away from Goodison Park.

Garbutt made an impact for Everton during the 2014-15 campaign but the left-back has failed to progress with the Toffees, partly due to injury.

The academy graduate still has over two years remaining on his contract, but Allardyce has advised the 24-year-old to try to secure a move elsewhere during the summer.

The 63-year-old is quoted by the Liverpool Echo as saying: "He's had a difficult time here and, personally, Luke Garbutt's future is elsewhere.

"I don't think there is any doubt about that, based on what we've seen that he needs to be looking to move away from the football club and resurrect his career somewhere else because it's not only me who hasn't played him, it's Ronald [Koeman] and, at the back end, Roberto [Martinez].

"So his future is somewhere else and when a player has been languishing as long as he has. He would be out on loan if someone had asked for him and unfortunately for us, no-one asked for him on loan."

Garbutt has not made a first-team outing for Everton since May 2015.
