Verona had a huge opportunity to get back into the game on 69 minutes through Bosko Jankovic, but he could not direct his headed effort on target.
Five minutes later, Jankovic had an effort from distance, although his strike went just wide of the mark.
Raphael Martinho should have made it 2-1 on 77 minutes when he darted into the area, but Mattia Perin stayed alert and denied the chance to keep the score at 2-0.
Toni came close against on 80 minutes, hitting the post with a header before Daniele Cacia sent a weak shot straight at the goalkeeper from the rebound.
