Inter Milan midfielder Hernanes has praised his teammates for the spirit and character shown during their 2-1 win over Fiorentina in Serie A.

The Nerazzurri claimed successive wins in the league for the first time since November and closed the gap between themselves and their fourth-placed opponents to five points in the table.

"We played with a lot of aggression and character tonight. It was a fantastic performance," he told Sky Sport Italia.

"If we play with this spirit, we can achieve great things. With these two wins we can afford to smile again and we'll try to continue on this path.

"My teammates and I all have important defensive jobs to do when we're not in possession, and when we win it back we try to get our own game going. We did that well today. When you win matches like this, it makes your task easier."

Inter are next in action when they face Caglari in Serie A on February 23.
