Leicester City are reportedly in the race for striker Mostafa Mohamed of Nantes, who could be forced to sell the Egyptian for a cut-price fee in January.

Leicester City have reportedly entered the race for Mostafa Mohamed of Nantes during the January transfer window.

The 26-year-old has endured a difficult start to life in Ligue 1 this campaign on an individual note, scoring just once across eight top-flight appearances.

That being said, the attacker showed signs of a prolific marksman during the 2023-24 season for the Yellow Canaries, bagging on eight occasions across 29 matches in all competitions.

The forward is a regular in the national side of Egypt and played alongside Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah during the October international break.

Since securing a permanent move from Turkish giants Galatasaray to Nantes during the summer of 2023, Mohamed has found the net on nine occasions from 37 appearances.

Leicester handed boost in Mohamed pursuit?

According to French outlet Sportune, Mohamed's current club Nantes are experiencing financial difficulties, which could change the landscape of the race for the player's signature.

The report claims that the Yellow Canaries could be forced to sell some of their first-team stars during the upcoming January and summer transfer windows.

It is understood that Egyptian marksman Mohamed falls firmly into that category, with his one-year permanent association with the Ligue 1 club potentially drawing to a close.

It is believed that Leicester were chasing a deal for the 26-year-old during the summer transfer window, however Steve Cooper's side were unable to get an agreement sorted.

As well as the Premier League Foxes, it is said that Leganes, who now ply their trade in La Liga, are keen on securing the signature of Mohamed.

Do Leicester need Mohamed?

There was plenty of change in the forward ranks of Leicester over the summer, with Kelechi Iheanacho leaving the club on a free transfer, whilst Tom Cannon secured a loan switch to Championship outfit Stoke City.

The Foxes managed to strengthen the area during the off-season, with French marksman Odsonne Edouard switching across top-flight battlelines from Crystal Palace.

However, the 26-year-old has started just the single Premier League match this campaign, with club legend Jamie Vardy preferred by Cooper to lead the line.
