John Aldridge: Jon Flanagan can be the "next Jamie Carragher"

Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge tips Jon Flanagan to become the "next Jamie Carragher".

Liverpool legend John Aldridge has tipped Jon Flanagan to emulate Jamie Carragher.

The young defender scored his first goal for the Reds in their 5-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, and Aldridge thinks that Flanagan can go on to achieve similar success as the recently-retired Carragher.

"We need Scouse lads in the side and the hope is that Flanagan will go on to become the next Jamie Carragher," Aldridge wrote in his Liverpool Echo column.

"Since Flanagan came into the side last month he's been excellent. Nothing fazes him. He was up against Aaron Lennon on Sunday but he had him in his back pocket.

"It was the same against Everton when he really stepped up against Kevin Mirallas. You could see from the celebrations just how pleased everyone was for the young defender to score his first Liverpool goal."

The Reds are currently second in the Premier League, and can go top with victory against Cardiff City on Saturday lunchtime.
