Darwin Nunez scored the only goal of the match as Liverpool recorded a 1-0 victory over West Ham United in Wednesday evening's Premier League contest at Anfield.
West Ham missed a penalty late in the first half through Jarrod Bowen, and Nunez's 22nd-minute header proved to be enough for Jurgen Klopp's side to pick up an important three points.
The victory has seen the Reds move into seventh position in the table, 11 points behind leaders Arsenal and seven behind the champions Manchester City.
Roberto Firmino had the first half-chance of the match in the fifth minute when West Ham failed to clear their lines, but the Brazilian's effort was always moving wide of the post.
Nunez was next to try his luck, catching the ball on the half-volley in the 15th minute, but Hammers goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski was on hand to make a brilliant save.
Liverpool made the breakthrough in the 22nd minute, though, when Nunez headed a brilliant cross from Kostas Tsimikas into the back of the net, with the ball hitting the ground before bouncing over Fabianski.
Nunez almost had another less than a minute later following a mix-up at the back involving Ben Johnson, but Fabianski managed to keep out the Uruguay international's powerful effort.
Mohamed Salah then missed the post with an effort in the 35th minute, with West Ham struggling to get out of their own half during a difficult period at Anfield.
Nunez hit the post with a thumping effort late in the first half, but West Ham were then awarded a penalty in the 43rd minute when Joe Gomez brought Bowen to the ground, with Stuart Atwell giving the decision after consulting the pitchside monitor.
The Hammers passed up the opportunity, though, with Bowen seeing his effort saved by Alisson Becker.
Jordan Henderson curled one over the West Ham crossbar early in the second half, before Nunez missed the target with a powerful strike just before the hour.
Alisson had to keep out a strike from Said Benrahma in the 70th minute, before Kurt Zouma turned Henderson's cross onto his own crossbar in the 78th minute.
West Ham should have levelled in the 86th minute through Tomas Soucek, but James Milner was on hand to make a brilliant clearance, and Liverpool, despite a nervy finish, held on to secure another huge three points following Sunday's success over the champions Man City.
