Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers: 'Winning trophies not my main priority'

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says that his success as a manager will not be measured purely by winning trophies.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has claimed that winning trophies is not the be all and end all of a successful career in management.

In the Northern Irishman's first season in charge, the Reds finished seventh in the Premier League table.

In this campaign, the Merseyside outfit are in contention for Champions League qualification and a possible title charge with 10 games left to go.

While Rodgers has admitted that he is hopeful of winning trophies, the former Swansea City coach is determined to help young players succeed.

"When I eventually retire from football I want to be able to look back and see that not only have I won trophies but I've developed a football club that has brought through their own players and individuals and made them better," Rodgers told LFCTV GO.

"Other managers may be different and might just be about purely winning trophies but for me success isn't just picking up the trophy at the end of the season."

Raheem Sterling and Jon Flanagan have forced themselves into the first team under Rodgers at Anfield, while the likes of Jordan Ibe and Andre Wisdom have also been given a chance.
