Nigel Adkins: 'Alex McCarthy was world class against Liverpool'

Reading manager Nigel Adkins feels that goalkeeper Alex McCarthy was "world class" in their draw with Liverpool on Saturday.

Reading manager Nigel Adkins has hailed the performance of goalkeeper Alex McCarthy as "world-class" after his side's 0-0 draw with Liverpool at the Madejski Stadium this afternoon.

The visitors were denied several times by the keeper as the Royals held firm to take a point against Brendan Rodgers's side, and Adkins was full of praise for McCarthy after the game.

"I thought it was a good game, but we've kept a clean sheet and it's fair to say Alex has pulled off some world-class saves today," Adkins told reporters.

"All the headlines tomorrow will be about Alex McCarthy, won't they? He's put a fantastic goalkeeping display in. He's been out injured for a long period of time.

"I'm really pleased with the players, their attitude and their application."

The point means Reading are now level on points with Queens Park Rangers in the Premier League, but still bottom of the division on goal difference.
