Bayern Munich chief Oliver Kahn plays down rumours linking winger Kingsley Coman with a move to Liverpool, and says that he is confident he will sign new terms.

Bayern Munich chief Oliver Kahn has played down rumours that have linked winger Kingsley Coman with a move to Premier League giants Liverpool.

It is reported that Borussia Dortmund have overtaken the Reds in the race for PSV Eindhoven striker Donyell Malen, and so Liverpool are keen to sign Coman as an alternative.

The 25-year-old, who can operate anywhere across a front three, scored eight goals and provided 15 assists in 39 appearances for Bayern last season, and the club are keen to tie him down with a contract extension.

Kahn told reporters: "We're in talks with Leon Goretzka and Coman. Absolute top players want to be paid accordingly, we're not naive about that. That's perfectly fine. With us, there is a limit, which is very clearly defined.

"With David Alaba, you saw that at a certain point, we were no longer willing to go further. We don't push into salary regions that don't suit FC Bayern.

"We are in very, very good talks with both players. I am optimistic. We have a great package to offer here. They always have the chance to win big titles with us and can help shape an era."

Coman joined Bayern in 2017 and has gone on to score 41 goals and register 50 assists in 200 appearances for the club.
