Former Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel is believed to have terminated his contract with Italian side Atalanta after just three weeks.

Former Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has reportedly terminated his contract with Italian side Atalanta BC after just three weeks.

The 34-year-old signed a one-year deal with the club on August 9 after leaving Fenerbahce earlier in the summer but was yet to make his debut for the Lombardy-based side after being an unused substitute in last weekend's 3-2 win over SPAL.

According to the Daily Mail, the former Slovakian international ended his deal by mutual consent after a row with head coach Gian Piero Gasperini.

The report suggests that Skrtel felt aggrieved that he had not been integrated into the first team sooner and therefore decided to curtail his stint in Italy after just 22 days.

The centre-back made more than 200 appearances in an eight-year spell with Liverpool before he made the switch to Turkey in 2016.
