Erling Braut Haaland is out to join an exclusive Champions League goalscoring club when Manchester City face Borussia Dortmund in Group G on Tuesday.

Manchester City striker Erling Braut Haaland will be out to join an exclusive list of players when he faces former club Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old's scintillating start to life at the Etihad Stadium continued over the weekend, as he scored twice in the Premier League champions' 3-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion.

Haaland already has a staggering 17 goals to his name from 11 games in the English top flight, and he has kept up his affinity for Champions League goals in sky blue.

The Norway international has five goals from three European games for Pep Guardiola's side, bagging braces against Sevilla and Copenhagen either side of a late winner against BVB.

Guardiola opted to rest a fatigued Haaland for the return clash with Copenhagen, which ended in a goalless draw, but he will expect to take his place in the first XI at his former stomping ground this week.

Having also scored a brace on his final Champions League match for Dortmund against Benfica, Haaland is looking to score in five consecutive Champions League matches for the third separate time.

Should the Norwegian manage to do so, he would become just the sixth player in Champions League history to net in five successive games on at least three occasions.

Haaland would be in elite company too, as Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Lionel Messi, Robert Lewandowski and Ruud van Nistelrooy are among the players to have achieved the feat three times.

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo has managed such a goalscoring streak on five separate occasions, and Haaland's total in the competition already stands at 28 goals from 22 outings.

During his time at Red Bull Salzburg, Haaland burst onto the scene with eight goals in five consecutive group-stage games in 2019-20, scoring in both fixtures versus Genk and Napoli, as well as netting against Liverpool.

Upon his arrival to Germany, Haaland would score in all four group matches he played in during the 2020-21 season before missing Dortmund's final two games of the section through injury.

The Scandinavian returned to score in the fifth consecutive outing versus Sevilla in the last 16, and he increased his streak to six with another pair of goals in the second leg against Los Palanganas.

Man City have already sealed their place in the last 16 with 10 points from their opening four games in Group G, and a draw would be enough for the Citizens to guarantee a first-placed finish.

On the other hand, defeat at Westfalenstadion would open the door for Dortmund to overtake them before Guardiola's side play host to Sevilla at the Etihad on matchday six next month.
