Manchester City defender John Stones expresses his frustration about Manchester City's performance against Basel.

Manchester City defender John Stones has admitted that his side were far from their best during their 2-1 home defeat to Basel in the last 16 of the Champions League.

The Sky Blues progressed to the next round 5-2 on aggregate thanks to a convincing 4-0 win in the away leg, but the England international has expressed his frustration about their performance on the night.

"Everyone is fighting in training to play on the pitch and the lads and the young lads got the chance tonight," Stones told BT Sport.

"It was a difficult game to come into and there are a lot of things that we need to look at moving forward individually and as a team.

"We weren't at our best. We set ourselves a high standard and we're disappointed that we didn't meet that standard."

Stones is in competition with Nicolas Otamendi, Aymeric Laporte and Vincent Kompany for a place in the City first team.
