Aymeric Laporte to return before the end of January?

Manchester City centre-back Aymeric Laporte could reportedly make his return from a knee injury before the end of the month.

Manchester City centre-back Aymeric Laporte is reportedly determined to make his return from a knee injury before the end of the month.

The Frenchman has been on the sidelines since the end of August after picking up a serious knee problem in the Premier League clash with Brighton & Hove Albion.

Laporte has made strong progress in his recovery over the last few weeks, though, and he could return to the field before the clash with Tottenham Hotspur on February 2, according to the Daily Mail.

"He's training every day, and he finishes training with a good feeling," Guardiola told reporters when questioned on Laporte's recovery.

"He feels no pain and that's good news. I don't know when he'll be ready to start to play some minutes but it's closer than last month. I wait to see what the doctor says. What I see on the pitch is he moves well."

City have struggled defensively in Laporte's absence with John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi failing to convince, meaning that holding midfielder Fernandinho has been pressed into action in central defence.
