Southampton full-back Ryan Bertrand linked with Manchester City move

Manchester City will reportedly attempt to sign Ryan Bertrand from Southampton during the winter transfer window to provide further full-back cover.

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is to push ahead with his plans to sign Ryan Bertrand from Southampton when the transfer window reopens, according to a report.

The Citizens were previously tipped to make a move for the England international in the summer, before instead bringing in Kyle Walker, Benjamin Mendy and Danilo for big money.

Guardiola is said to be on the lookout for yet another wide defensive player, however, having lost Mendy to a knee injury until next April.

Bertrand is the player City want to provide cover, with The Sun reporting that Southampton will be willing to cash in if the right amount is offered.

Asked to comment on his transfer activity, Guardiola said: "We will see if we can add players in January. The problem we have is the Mendy injury."

Chelsea were also linked with the 28-year-old in the summer, two years after letting him join the Saints on a permanent deal.
