Ryan Giggs: 'Louis van Gaal won't be overwhelmed'

Manchester United coach Ryan Giggs believes that manager Louis van Gaal won't be fazed by the job this coming season.

Manchester United coach Ryan Giggs believes that Louis van Gaal won't be daunted by the prospect of managing the club this coming season.

The Dutchman oversaw a successful tour of the United States which culminated with victory in the International Champions Cup against fierce rivals Liverpool on Monday.

Giggs, who retired to take over as Van Gaal's assistant in the close season, thinks that his new boss will approach the role without trepidation.

He told the club's official website: "He won't be overwhelmed. Even the manager has realised how big this club is in the short space of time he has been here.

"The crowds for friendlies are 'unbelievable' in his words. He's managed at the top level for a long, long time and won't be intimidated or afraid of managing Manchester United.

"I think he's a great character. He is, first and foremost, a leader and demands respect, demands discipline and a real sort of detailed structure. But, within that structure, there is obviously freedom to move. It's been great - the players have really enjoyed it so far and I certainly have."

United begin their new campaign with a visit from Swansea City on August 16.
