Michael Laudrup: 'Sir Alex Ferguson's winning mentality makes Manchester United favourites'

Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup believes that Manchester United are still favourites for the Premier League due to the winning mentality instilled into the club by Sir Alex Ferguson.

Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup believes that Manchester United are still the favourites for the Premier League title because Sir Alex Ferguson's winning mentality is instilled in the club.

Despite winning last season's title with four games to spare, United are currently third favourites behind Chelsea and Manchester City.

However, Laudrup has said that the winning mentality brought in by Ferguson is now part of the club's DNA, making Moyes's side the favourites in his opinion.

"It is unique because Ferguson has been there so many years," Laudrup told reporters. "It is something they have built up, it is personalised in him because he was the manager for all those years. They have built something up that is so difficult – a winning mentality.

"There were three teams who could win the title last year. Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea. Do I think Manchester United had a much better team than the other two? No.

"It is so difficult to explain and build up. Manchester United have had it many years and will still have it for many years. It is like a strand of DNA at the club. Other clubs still have to build it."

Laudrup saw his side lose 4-1 to United at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday.
