Match Analysis: Swansea City 1-4 Manchester United

Sports Mole takes a closer look at Manchester United's 4-1 win at Swansea City in the Premier League.

David Moyes picked up his first Premier League win as Manchester United manager on Saturday with a 4-1 victory at Swansea City.

Robin van Persie and Danny Welbeck scored two goals apiece as the champions got the defence of their title off to an emphatic start.

Meanwhile, Wilfried Bony netted in response for the Swans as they were comfortably beaten by the Red Devils.

Here, Sports Mole take a closer look at the action from the Liberty Stadium.

Was the result fair?

Swansea certainly enjoyed more possession than their opponents, but the match was decided by the visitors' clinical finishing. United were simply more lethal in the final third, while doing well to absorb plenty of pressure at the back.

Swansea's performance

It was typical Swansea in many respects: slick passing and plenty of hustling when out of possession. However, they were wasteful in front of goal. Manager Michael Laudrup will not be too disheartened with what he saw, but they will want to get some points on the board quickly.

Man Utd's performance

It was by no means perfect, but the visitors were in the kind of mood where they looked threatening with every attack. There were plenty of calm heads in defence and midfield, while Van Persie and Welbeck were sharp up front.

Sports Mole's man of the match

Robin van Persie: The Dutchman started where he left off last season with a couple of wonderful goals. Not only was his finishing immaculate, but his link-up play looked as good as ever.

Biggest gaffe

Wayne Rooney did little to appease his doubters when he came off the bench as the striker was lazily caught offside a couple of times to hamper United's momentum.

Referee performance

Phil Dowd started the match poorly with a couple of early bookings, but he eventually got to grips with the conditions and allowed the players to play.

What next?

Swansea: Laudrup's side are back in action on Thursday when they host Petrolul Ploiesti in the first leg of their Europa League qualifier.

Man Utd: David Moyes and his players have the small task of welcoming Chelsea to Old Trafford in the Premier League a week on Monday.
