Manchester United allegedly do not view negotiating a new contract with Red Devils captain Bruno Fernandes as an immediate priority.

Manchester United reportedly do not view negotiating a new contract with Bruno Fernandes as an immediate priority, with his deal still having two years left to run.

The Red Devils captain was again in impressive form for the club during the 2023-24 campaign, scoring 15 goals and registering 13 assists in 49 appearances in all competitions.

There has recently been speculation surrounding his future, though, with Bayern Munich believed to be keen to explore a deal for him during the summer transfer window.

Teams from the Saudi Pro League are also thought to be keeping a close eye on the developments surrounding Fernandes, with a lucrative move to the division potentially becoming an option.

A recent report claimed that Fernandes is not one of the six untouchables in the Man United squad, and the club would be willing to let him leave this summer if a substantial offer arrived.

Man United 'not planning to open Fernandes contract talks'

There have also been claims that Fernandes could be in line for a new contract at Old Trafford, as he is currently behind the likes of Casemiro and Marcus Rashford when it comes to the best-paid players at the club.

However, according to the Manchester Evening News, a new deal for the Portugal international is not viewed as a priority for the club at this moment in time.

The report claims that Man United are not planning to open contract talks with any players during the current transfer window, with Fernandes having a deal until June 2026, with the option of a further 12 months.

However, it has been claimed that Fernandes's agent may approach the Red Devils later this year to discuss a new contract, if the attacker is not sold this summer.

Man United would allegedly be willing to discuss a renewal later this year, with their immediate focus on selling players and strengthening their squad for the 2024-25 campaign.

Will Fernandes leave Man United this summer?

Last month, Fernandes said that he would remain at Old Trafford for as long as the club want him.

"I will be here if the club wants me to be a part of the future. If for some reason they don't want me, I will go," the Portuguese said after the 3-2 success over Newcastle United.

Fernandes has since helped the Red Devils win the FA Cup final, and it would be a huge surprise if he was not at the club at the end of the summer transfer window.

Only a substantial offer for the attacker would be considered, and while that is not impossible, it is unlikely that a move to Saudi Arabia would be enticing at this stage of his career.

Bayern have other priorities this summer, meanwhile, so all of the signs are pointing towards Fernandes staying in Manchester, and the club should be looking to build around him in the coming years.
