Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey reportedly fractured a bone in his hand after turning peacemaker during a training-ground fight between two of his teammates.
The 25-year-old is said to have stepped in when skipper Jamaal Lascelles and Mohamed Diame came face to face at the club's Darsley Park HQ.
Shelvey was initially thought to have broken a finger during Thursday's bust-up, but it has now been claimed by The Sun that the damage sustained is slightly more serious.
According to the report, the incident occurred in a lively session when Lascelles called Diame "lazy", which the latter responded to with an insult before tempers boiled over.
Shelvey is still expected to be in contention to feature against Southampton next weekend, however, thanks to the use of a plaster cast to protect his hand.
