FIFA president Sepp Blatter snubs FIFA medical conference amid corruption scandal

FIFA president Sepp Blatter will not attend the FIFA medical conference in Zurich today amid the ongoing corruption scandal.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter will not attend this morning's medical conference in Zurich amid the ongoing corruption scandal surrounding football's world governing body.

Seven football officials were arrested on Wednesday on allegations of bribery, money laundering and racketeering.

It is believed that more than £65m was accepted in bribes from the 1990s to the present day, and Swiss prosecutors have opened a separate investigation looking into the allocation of the 2018 and 2022 World Cups to Russia and Qatar respectively.

While Blatter has not been arrested himself, the Swiss national has avoided three public appearances this week, the latest of which is a FIFA medical conference that he was due to host.

US financial services company Visa is the first FIFA sponsor threatening to withdraw its partnership with the football organisation unless 'changes are made'.
