Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi steps down following France defeat

Nigeria boss Stephen Keshi becomes the sixth manager to leave his post at the World Cup.

Nigeria manager Stephen Keshi has resigned from his post following his side's 2-0 defeat to France in the last 16 of the World Cup.

The 52-year-old is the sixth coach to step down during the tournament, following Honduras's Luis Suarez, Iran's Carlos Queiroz, Japan's Alberto Zaccheroni, Italy's Cesare Prandelli and Ivory Coast's Sabri Lamouchi.

Keshi took charge of Nigeria in 2011 and guided them to Africa Cup of Nations glory two years later, only to offer his resignation afterwards, citing a lack of support and respect.

Although he was convinced to stay on by the country's sports minister, Nigeria's World Cup defeat to France has proven to be the final straw.

Nigeria skipper Joseph Yobo also announced his retirement from international football following their exit from the tournament at the last-16 stage.
