Rangers manager Ally McCoist has admitted that he is "extremely disappointed" with the Scottish Premier League's refusal to let the club back into the top flight.
The former champions had made attempts to be reinstated into the SPL after going into administration but were denied after clubs voted against such a move.
However, a decision will be made next week as to which tier of Scottish football they will enter for next season.
"I'm extremely disappointed, that's probably putting it mildly," McCoist told RangersTV. "We obviously wanted to play in the SPL next season but it wasn't to be.
"SPL clubs voted just about unanimously for us not to be reinstated into the SPL but it's a decision we have to accept and move on."
The Gers are expected to go into the Scottish First Division although they could yet be put in the Third Division.
