Real Madrid top La Liga table

Real Madrid beat Almeria 4-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu to climb to the top of La Liga.

Real Madrid have climbed to the summit of the La Liga table by comfortably beating Almeria 4-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Barcelona's loss against Granada in the night's early kickoff paved the way for Los Blancos to top the table, ahead of Atletico Madrid's clash with Getafe tomorrow.

The home side came close to making the breakthrough with just five minutes on the clock, as Angel di Maria worked space before striking towards goal, only for his effort to come back off the crossbar.

Esteban was called into action shortly after to keep out Gareth Bale, with the Welshman driving into the Almeria box and getting a shot away which was well kept out by the keeper.

Madrid did manage to find a way through, however, thanks to Di Maria, who curled the ball into the far corner and out of the reach of Esteban to make it 1-0.

The second half was more straightforward for Carlo Ancelotti's men, with Bale adding his second on 54 minutes after collecting a pass from Karim Benzema and finding the net from close range.

Goal number three came from the boot of Isco, who managed to find space in a crowded box before finding the bottom corner to wrap up the points.

Alvaro Morata's seventh goal of the season six minutes from time put the icing on the cake for the capital city side, collecting a through-ball from Asier Illarramendi before finishing into the top corner.
