Morgan Schneiderlin: 'Saints deserved to win'

Morgan Schneiderlin says that Southampton will learn more about new manager Mauricio Pochettino sooner rather than later.

Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin has insisted that his side deserved to beat Everton on Monday.

In their first game under new manager Mauricio Pochettino, the Saints drew 0-0 with Everton at St Mary's to move four points clear of the relegation zone.

While the Frenchman admits that his side do not know too much about their new boss, he is confident that their imminent training camp trip to Barcelona will soon change that.

"I think he's great," Schneiderlin told Sky Sports News. "In the next couple of weeks we are going to get to know him better and he will get to know us better. Next week we are going away for a couple of days to know what he really wants from us and it's going to be great.

"The gaffer asked us to play a high-tempo game with a lot of pressure to them because we knew that if we allowed them to play out from the back, they have [Marouane] Fellaini and people like that who can hold the ball very well.

"We tried to put good pressure on them and I think we did that very well. I think if we play again like that there are some games that we are going to win because today I thought we deserved the three points."

Southampton travel to Manchester United next Wednesday.
