Shaun Maloney strikes on 24 minutes to give Wigan a 1-0 half-time advantage at Wembley against FA Cup semi-final opponents Millwall.

Shaun Maloney's first-half goal at Wembley has put Wigan Athletic in front against Millwall and on course for the FA Cup final.

In their first semi-final in the tournament's history, Premier League club Wigan enjoyed the better of an opening 45 minutes that presented few goalscoring opportunities.

Jordi Gomez was allowed to run into the box unchallenged until Mark Beevers blocked his third-minute shot, but it was not until the 15-minute mark that either goalkeeper was called upon.

Millwall's Republic of Ireland international goalkeeper David Forde showed good composure to hold onto Callum McManaman's swerving shot and then keep out Kone's low strike.

Forde was beaten 10 minutes later, though, as Kone showed great control on his chest before dribbling past two men and squaring for Maloney to fire instantly into the net from just inside the area.

The Latics nearly went two clear before the break, but Forde reacted well to save Gomez's curling effort.
