Bath Rugby secure win over Exeter Chiefs

A fine first-half performance from Bath Rugby helps them secure a win over Exeter Chiefs in the LV= Cup clash this afternoon.

An impressive first-half display from Bath Rugby helped them secure a win over Exeter Chiefs in this afternoon's LV= Cup encounter.

The home side took an early advantage after just two minutes through a Matt Banahan try, before George Ford extended the lead with a well-taken conversion.

Bath continued to dominate and increased their advantage two minutes late when Matt Garvey notched a try.

Henry Slade brought Exeter back into the game on nine minutes with a penalty goal, as the away side began to play their way into the contest.

Martin Roberts put Bath back in charge with a try on 33 minutes, with Ford making the conversion.

Ford gave his side an impressive 21-point lead going into half time with a penalty goal just before the whistle.

Ford struck again 10 minutes into the second half with another penalty, but James Phillips replied soon replied with the visitors' first try of the game on 61 minutes.

Bath all but confirmed the win on 71 minutes with a try from Charlie Beech, before Tom Heathcote struck a penalty goal a minute later.

Exeter replied with a late try and conversion on 77 minutes from Ceri Sweeney, before Heathcote wrapped up the win with a penalty goal before the final whistle.
