Roger Federer wins 300th Grand Slam match by ousting Grigor Dimitrov in Australia

Roger Federer wins his 300th Grand Slam match by beating Grigor Dimitrov to reach the fourth round of the Australian Open.

Roger Federer won his 300th Grand Slam match by knocking Grigor Dimitrov out of the Australian Open in the third round of the tournament in Melbourne on Friday.

The 34-year-old, who has won 17 major titles in his career, dropped his first set of the tournament, but ended up sealing a 6-4 3-6 6-1 6-4 triumph over the 27th seed.

After going a break up in the seventh game, Federer looked on course to break again to win the set, but Dimitrov held firm by saving three set points.

The Bulgarian was unable to do much better than that, though, as his Swiss opponent took a one-set lead on his serve.

A rain delay in the second set seemed to benefit Dimitrov as he broke to go 3-1 up before seeing it out and drawing level Down Under.

Federer managed to regain composure in the third set as he broke twice, which was enough to seal a 2-1 lead, and from that point the 34-year-old dominated as he required just one break of serve to secure victory.

The four-time Australian Open champion will play David Goffin in the fourth round.
