Manchester City are hopeful that defender Kyle Walker will recover from injury in time for Sunday's Premier League showdown with title rivals Arsenal, according to a report.

Manchester City are hopeful that defender Kyle Walker will recover from injury in time for Sunday's Premier League showdown with title rivals Arsenal, according to a report.

The 33-year-old was named in England's starting lineup and was handed the captain's armband for last weekend's 1-0 friendly defeat to Brazil at Wembley Stadium, where Endrick netted the only goal of the game for the visitors 10 minutes from time.

However, 82-cap international Walker was forced off just 20 minutes into the first half after tweaking the hamstring in his left leg.

After the match, England manager Gareth Southgate was unable to provide an immediate update on the severity of Walker's injury, while the defender himself took to social media to state that he is hopeful he did not suffer anything "too serious".

Walker has since withdrawn from the England squad and will not take part in the Three Lions' clash against Belgium on Tuesday, raising concerns at Man City over his availability ahead of Sunday's showdown with Arsenal.

However, according to Sky Sports News, Walker's issue is not thought to be too serious and Man City are hopeful that he will be fit and available to feature against the Gunners at the Etihad Stadium.

The report adds that Walker has sustained a tight hamstring rather than a strain, and his progress will be monitored over the next few days.

Walker is the latest player to enter the Man City treatment room after England teammate Jack Grealish, goalkeeper Ederson and playmaker Kevin De Bruyne.

While Grealish is hoping to recover from a groin injury in time for this weekend's encounter with Premier League leaders Arsenal, both Ederson and De Bruyne are doubtful and are due to be assessed ahead of kickoff.

Reports earlier this month suggested that Ederson could be out for up to four weeks with a muscle injury sustained in a 1-1 draw with Liverpool before the international break, while De Bruyne was omitted from the Belgium squad due to a groin problem.

Pep Guardiola will be keen to have as many of those four players available during an important run of fixtures in the closing stages of the campaign, with Man City still on course to complete an unprecedented double-treble.

The Citizens are preparing for a run of four fixtures within the space of just nine days, with three Premier League games against Arsenal, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace followed by the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie against Real Madrid.

Man City currently sit third in the Premier League table, just one point behind second-placed Liverpool and leaders Arsenal with 10 games left to play.
