Former Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas claims to be paid less money by Barcelona than he collected during his time with the Gunners.

Cesc Fabregas has revealed that he receives less money at Barcelona than he did during his time at Arsenal.

The Spanish international rejoined his boyhood club Barca following an eight-year stint with the Gunners in 2011.

However, the 25-year-old has insisted that his switch was motivated by trophies and not the offer of more money.

"There are teams that would have paid much more, yes. But it was always clear to me. I either went to Barcelona or stayed at Arsenal," he told Foot Mercato. "In the end, I came to Barcelona and earn less. I don't mind this. At Arsenal I was the captain, somewhat iconic and was treated specially.

"I don't play for money though, obviously it's an important part of life, but what I earn is more than enough.

"I did not say, 'I'll go to a club where I play less and win titles'. No, I want to win and be important."

Fabregas also admitted that he would have spent his entire career with Arsenal had Barca not have declared their interest.
