Mikel Arteta reportedly left Matteo Guendouzi out of Arsenal's squad for their clash with Newcastle United due to some poor displays during their training camp in Dubai.

Matteo Guendouzi was reportedly left out of Arsenal's squad for Sunday's 4-0 win over Newcastle United after failing to impress boss Mikel Arteta in training.

The 20-year-old was omitted from the Gunners' matchday squad in a Premier League game in which he was available for the first time since joining the club in 2018.

According to The Mirror, his absence was down to some poor performances during Arsenal's winter training camp in Dubai last week.

Guendouzi was a regular under former head coach Unai Emery, but he has struggled to hold down a place in the side under Arteta over the past couple of months.

Reports emerged last week suggesting that Arsenal are looking to hand the 20-year-old a new contract, with his current deal due to expire in 2022.
