How Arsenal could line up against Newcastle United

Ahead of Sunday's Premier League game between Arsenal and Newcastle United, Sports Mole looks at how Mikel Arteta's side could line up against the Magpies.

Arsenal head into Sunday's Premier League fixture with Newcastle United looking to boost their chances of finishing the campaign in the top six.

While the Gunners are unbeaten in their last five outings in the top flight, their last league success came against Manchester United on New Year's Day.

With Newcastle having produced a similar run of form, the clubs square off at the Emirates Stadium level on points in the standings.

Here, Sports Mole predicts how the North Londoners may line up against the Magpies.

With Arsenal having failed to score at Burnley, Arteta will consider handing a recall to Nicolas Pepe, who was an unused substitute at Turf Moor.

The Ivory Coast international could potentially replace Alexandre Lacazette with the Frenchman having not netted from his last eight starts.

Such a scenario would allow Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to play down the middle, accompanied by Mesut Ozil behind him in a creative role and Gabriel Martinelli to his left.

A midfield double-act of Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira should remain the same, although Sead Kolasinac is in line to return at left-back providing that he has shaken off a thigh problem.

Although Arteta has acknowledged that Pablo Mari is close to making his debut, the Spaniard may be kept in reserve until the Europa League meeting with Olympiacos on Thursday.

Fellow January arrival Cedric Soares is still sidelined with a knee injury.
